This course introduces you to the basics of social statistics – techniques that social scientists use to summarize numeric data obtained from surveys, experiments and censuses and to infer characteristics of a population from sample observations, and how to summarize relationships between variables.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to…
1.Explain basic concepts and develop an understanding of the importance of social statistics.
2.Present and interpret effectively basic descriptive statistics.
3.Be familiar with the concept of statistical inference and comprehend the reasoning behind hypothesis testing using survey data.

Required: 劉弘煌 (2020)。社會統計學:理論與應用(四版)。臺北市:雙葉書廊。
Recommended: Agresti, Alan (2018). Statistical Methods for the Social Science (fifth edition). United Kingdom: Pearson. To effectively learn statistics, one must use statistics. For that reason, I require students to complete several weekly homework questions. Homework is to be submitted in person the following week, unless instructed to do otherwise. There will be at least 3 weeks of homework exercises assigned.
Students will also be assessed by ONE presentation & couple of in-class assignments. Its content and requirement will be provided the first few weeks of classes.
